ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE
We begin our tour with a drive to Laventille, the contentiously and supposed birthplace of the instrument. Here we will meet a top constructor and tuner of this our National and the only acoustic instrument, created in the 20th century, and see the skill and expertise that goes into its making. You’ll also have an opportunity to swing a creative hammer or two to aid in the construction. For those wanting to purchase a personalized Steelpan, you can start the process, have your name etched on it, and it can be completed and shipped to you. While at the yard, we’ll also give you a lesson in Steelpan playing and the opportunity to play a bar or two.
